| Description |
English: Long before SUVs were around, the first mass in what would be St. Ambrose Parish was held in 1851 in a log hut in Fort Des Moines. The church was built 5 years later, renovated several times, and finally dedicated in 1891. It was designated as a cathedral in 1911 upon the establishment of the Diocese of Des Moines. This photo is part of my 2008 archive and taken while attending the US International Visitors' Leadership Program. Blogged at Children of the Corn in "Shooting Churches, Eating Noodles". |
