Pararescuemen from the 103rd Rescue Squadron conduct confined space rescue training at Francis S. Gabreski Air National Guard Base in Westhampton Beach, New York on January 8, 2017.. . During this scenario, Pararescuemen rappelled from the top of the parachute drying facility to rescue another airmen who had fallen into a confined space. The injured airman was hoisted to the top of the facility in a litter, and then hoisted back down the outside of the building. . . Pararescuemen, also known as PJs, are the only Department of Defense specialty specifically trained and equipped to conduct conventional or unconventional rescue operations.
