Summary[edit]

Description

Immediate post-war era Tank Destroyer, built in Czechoslovakia for the Swiss Army. ‘G-13’ had been the Škoda factory designation for the Jagdpanzer 38 tank destroyers they had built for Germany during 1944 and 1945. The post-war Swiss Army needed new armoured vehicles and ordered 158 G-13s from Škoda. Built on the same production line, these were largely the same as the wartime vehicles and some early examples actually used left-over wartime components. One noticeable difference was the fitting of a muzzle break to prolong barrel life. German vehicles did not have a muzzle-break because crews found that it was more likely to give away their position, rather more critical at the time than barrel-life! The Swiss Army used the type until 1970, by which time 94 of them had been re-engined with Saurer diesel engines instead of the original petrol engines This example was presented to the Imperial war Museum in 1981 by the Swiss Ministry of Defence. The muzzle-break has been removed and it has been painted in a wartime German scheme to represent a Jagdpanzer 38. It seen on display in the Land Warfare Hall at Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire, UK.
