Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This is perhaps the most famous inscription from the ancient world. The Pantheon was built by Augustus' son-in-law, Marcus Agrippa, in 27BC. It was destroyed by fire, then re-built by the Emperor Hadrian in about 125AD.

A lesser man might have claimed for himself the credit for the new building, but Hadrian's inscription reads

M·AGRIPPA·L·F·COS·TERTIVM·FECIT - Marcus Agrippa, son of Lucius, Consul for the Third Time, Built This
