A male Palmate Newt looks to attract a mate at the bottom of a crystal clear granite pond
Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: This male newt is was wondering the bottom of a pond in Swansea University Wallace Gardens. The black webbing on his feet are unique to his gender and species. Newts communicate with pheromones so he may have already be following a nearby female. Palmate newts thrive in the natural granite fed waters of South Wales which are slightly acidic, benefitting palmate newts over the closely related and more common smooth newts. |
