Deutsch: Szene aus der Schlacht bei Rocroi (19. Mai 1643). Weitere Informationen zum Gemälde finden sich hier, einige detailliertere Ansichten auf dieser [1].
Español: Escena de carácter histórico en la que dos jinetes rinden protocolo a un hombre tendido sobre la tierra rodeado por sus ejércitos. En el margen inferior derecho aparece un tambor-bombo. En el centro una espada y otros utensilios de guerra. Presenta la escena final de la batalla, librada los días 18 y 19 de mayo de 1643, en las cercanías de la ciudad francesa de Rocroi: es el desenlace de la lucha, que señala el final de las glorias militares de España en los Países Bajos y el Norte de Francia. Las tropas españolas estaban al mando del gobernador de los Países Bajos, Francisco Melo; las francesas, al mando del Príncipe Louis Condé. Dice la leyenda que ante el cuerpo inerte del Conde de la Fuente, el gran Condé dijo: si no hubiese vencido hubiera querido morir con tanto honor como el que está aquí caído.
