Decorative painting, Vijayanagara era

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Hampi area temples built during the Vijayanagara empire era show evidence of two types of painting artwork (chitra kala):
  1. Decorative, where bands or parts of a structure, mandapa, pillar, statue or relief were painted. This was typically in one or two colors, and the technique was simpler than the second type.
  2. Murals, where ceiling or wall was properly polished, base applied and Hindu legends were then sketched and painted with many colors; these were then coated per the Chitra sutras and other Sanskrit treatises on painting.
