Summary[edit]

Description
English: Army chaplain in his chapel, Western Front, during World War I. This photograph shows an army chaplain arranging wildflowers in a vase for the altar in his little chapel. Three other vases of flowers stand on the altar, flanking a simple cross and the chalice and paten used for the sacrament, which are hidden below a cloth.

Also on the altar, there is the chaplain's stole, a scarf-like vestment worn by Catholic or Anglican priests when administering the sacraments.
[Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE. A Padre decorating the altar in his "Church" in the line. This little hut which serves as a Church is in a clump of trees barely 200 yards from the front line.']
