Blue Lake lies two miles southof Upper Blue Lake, which empties intoit through a stream having a fall of about 206 Pacific Service Magazine ninety feet. The area of Lower BlueLake is 145 acres, its elevation, at crestof dam, 8040 feet above sea level, and itis confined by a dam 1050 feet in length.The lake has a storage capacity of 4340acre-feet and a catchment area of 3050acres, including that of Upper Blue Lake.Half a mile in a westerly direction fromLower Blue Lake are Twin Lakes, unitedinto a single body of water by a dam attheir outlet on the northwesterly side; Lakes, and nearly 450 feet below them inelevation. It was formed by throwinga dam of dry rubble masonry and rockfill 775 feet long across the westerly endof an immense granite basin, otherwisecompletely surrounded by mountains ofgreat height, thus forming a portion of theroute of Meadow Creek, which is a tribu-tary of the North Fork of the MokelumneRiver. The great hydro-electric power plant at Electra, on the Mokelumne River, near Jackson, AmadorCounty. Generator capacity 26,000 horsepower. their area when full is 118.3 acres, witha watershed of 500 acres. The dam is1552 feet long, 22 feet high and 42.5 feetwide at the base, this being sufficient toraise the surface of these lakes 20 feetvertically and to develop a storagecapacity of 1340 acre-feet. The water isdischarged from Twin Lakes into astream which flows down to MeadowLake, thence into the north fork of theMokelumne River. Meadow Lake is an artificial reservoirabout three miles westerly from Twin floods 141.2 acres with the present 73.5-foot dam and has a storage capacity of6110 acre-feet. The other source of water supply,Bear River Reservoir, was formed by thebuilding of a dam across the Bear River,which is a tributary of the North Forkof the Mokelumne River, from the northside in Amador County, abutting againstthe granite walls of the canyon.
