ber 4, 1918. Mr. Murgatroyd joined the Coast Artil-lery Corps, and is now stationed at FortWinfleld Scott. His chief ambition in lifewas to enter the service in time to seesome real action over there. In this hew£is disappointed, as he just succeeded ingetting under the wire before the closeof the war. He writes that he is greatly pleasedwith the life at Fort Scott; that the eatsare first class, but that kitchen policeis the bunk, However, the latter duty headquarters attended to their variousduties. Then it was found impossibleto hold the enthusiasm that was swellingin their hearts and General Manager JohnA. Britton sent word to all in the build-ing to gather in the street in front. The Pacific Service parade tlirough tlie streets of San Francisco on Armistice D;i\. will undoubtedly serve as excellent train-ing for some of our young men when,later in life, they join the ranks of thebenedicts. On Armistice Day, November 11th, eighthundred members of the Pacific Servicefamily paraded through the streets ofSan Francisco in honor of the glad newsof a world freedom. The celebration was entirely im-promptu. Business opened as usual andfor a couple of hours or so employees at employees in the San Francisco District,men and women, made up a parade thatwas two blocks long. The way led from Pacific Servicebuilding down Powell Street to Marketand out Market to Seventh, There theparade counter-marched down Market asfar as Montgomery Street and up PostStreet to Stockton, and so back to head-quarters. It was a joyous affair fromstart to finish. Men and women sangpatriotic songs and gave back the cheersthat greeted them from the passers-byupon the sidewalks. 190 Pacific Service
