Description
English: Professor Pabitra Sarkar was a student of the University of Calcutta where he obtained top positions both in his B.A. and M.A. examinations. He taught at Jadavpur University from 1963 to 1998. From 1969 - 1975, he was in the United States to do higher reasearch in Linguistics at the University of Chicago, where he did M.A. and Ph.D. in Linguistics. He taught at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis from 1973 to 1975.

Prof. Sarkar was appointed Vice Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata where he served for seven years from 1990 to 1997. On leaving the University, he served as the Vice-Chairman, West Bengal State Council of Higher Education.

Prof. Sarkar has written and edited more than a hundred books both in English and Bengali and is associated with various literary and cultural organizations of India.
