Description
Nederlands: Principe van de polymerase-kettingreactie (PCR). Het DNA wordt kortstondig verhit tot ongeveer 95°C zodat de strengen uit elkaar gaan (denaturatie). Dan wordt het DNA afgekoeld zodat de primers kunnen aanhechten aan de randen van het te vermenigvuldigen fragment (annealing). Vervolgens wordt verwarmd tot de optimale temperatuur van de polymerase (elongatie). Na vele cycli is het stukje DNA van interesse miljoenen keer gekopieerd, genoeg voor verder onderzoek. Het verkregen DNA kan worden gedetecteerd met gelelektroforese.
