Parapets des fenêtres des cuisines remplacés par des placards garde-manger munis de lattes du type persiennes pour la ventilation. Ce type d'équipement de cuisine, enclavé dans la partie inférieure de l'embrasure de la fenêtre, peu saillant côté extérieur, se trouve fréquemment dans les appartements des immeubles construits avant l'apparition (voir la commercialisation à grande échelle) des réfrigérateurs. Côté cuisine le garde-manger dit aussi « fruitier » ou « légumier » se présente comme un petit placard muni de rayons à claire-voie superposés pour la conservation de fruits, de légumes et autres aliments.
