VP-8, home ported at Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine, is currently deployed to the Mediterranean theater with detachments at Naval Air Station Sigonella, Sicily and Naval Support Activity Souda Bay. The P-3C is a land-based, long-range, anti-submarine warfare (ASW) patrol aircraft. It has advanced submarine detection sensors and can carry a mixed payload of weapons internally and on wing pylons.
