English: The text under the statue of Özay Gönlüm in Çatalçeşme, Denizli

Translation of the text:
He was born on 5 February 1940 in Denizli. The primary and secondary school he attended in Denizli. At the age of 14 he began to play Bağlama. At the age of 16 he met Muzaffer Sarısözen. With an invitation from him, he attend in the program "Yurttan Sesler" (Voices from the homeland) of the Ankara Radio. 1966 he joined the Radio in Ankara.

Between 1965-1977 he led in the Aegean region, especially in Denizli and the surrounding villages of folklore studies by more than 4000 folk songs he read before.

While the programs of Culture and Tourism Ministry to imagine Turkey, he held 23 Turkish folk music concerts, including nine in Europe.

In the dialect of Denizli he read the poem "Nineden Mektuplar" (Letters from the grandmother) and came to him a great high profile. With a free identity he told Türküs. By from Cura, Tambura and Bağlama incurred and unique tool called "Yaren" he sang his Türküs.

Our esteemed singer of Denizli leave us on 1 March 2000.

Er ist am 5. Februar 1940 in Denizli geboren. Die Grund- und Mittelschule besuchte er in Denizli. Mit 14 Jahren begann er Bağlama zu spielen. Mit 16 Jahren lernte er Muzaffer Sarısözen kennen. Mit einer Einladung von ihm nahm er beim Programm "Yurttan Sesler" (Stimmen aus der Heimat) der Radio Ankara teil. 1966 wurde er Mitglied bei der Radio Ankara.

Zwischen 1965-1977 führte er in der Ägäisregion vor allem in Denizli und den umliegenden Dörfern Untersuchungen der Folklore durch, über 4000 Volkslieder las er vor.

Während den Programmen des Kultur- und Tourismusministeriums zum Vorstellen der Türkei veranstaltete er 23 türkische Volksmusik Konzerte, davon neun in Europa.

Im Denizli-Dialekt gelesenen Gedicht "Nineden Mektuplar" (Briefe von der Oma) gelangte ihm eine große Bekannheitsgrad. Mit einer freien Identität erzählte er Türküs. Mit dem aus Cura, Bağlama und Tambura entstandenen und weltweit einzigartigen Instrument namens "Yaren" sang er seine Türküs.

Unser verehrter Sänger von Denizli hat uns am 1. März 2000 verlassen.
