Summary[edit]

Description
English: Owu the white anklets is for the titled men in Igbo culture ( Igbo is in Eastern part of Nigeria).

Owu is symbol of high status, wealth and prestige.

It is usually made of thread and must be tied to the ankle by the Community Chief Priest on the title taking day and not to be removed till death.

Nowadays because of influence of Christianity, titled men shy away from tying the Owu anklet.

Igbo: Owu bụ obele eriri nke ndị chịrị echiche na ala Igbo na eke na ụkwụ.

Owu na egosi ọgaranya. Ọ bụ eze mmụọ nke Obodo na ekedo owu ubochi ịchị ọzọ.
