Summary[edit]

Description
Eesti: Karpvähilised on kuni 2 mm pikkused vähid, keda võib leida igasugustest veekogudest: nii merest kui mageveest, väikestest lompidest, tiikidest, suurtest järvedest, jõgedest, allikatest, põhjaveest jne. Rohkem meeldib neile tegutseda põhjalähedases vees, kuid eriti meres leiab mõningaid liike ka pealmisest veekihist. Juba tiigi kaldalt võib madalas vees näha ronimas või ujumas neid miniatuurse oa kujulisi pisiloomi. Maailmas tuntakse karpvähilisi umbes 5700 liiki, Eesti vetest on leitud 93, oletatakse aga umbes 100 liigi olemasolu. Antud isendid on leitud Rakvere lähistelt ajutisest veekogust.
English: Ostracods are crustaceans up to 2 mm long that can be found in all kinds of water bodies: both sea and fresh water, small puddles, ponds, large lakes, rivers, springs, groundwater, etc. They prefer to operate in water close to the bottom, but especially in the sea, some species can also be found in the upper water layer. Already from the shore of the pond, you can see these miniature bean-shaped animals climbing or swimming in the shallow water. About 5,700 species of crustaceans are known in world, 93 have been found in Estonian waters, but the existence of about 100 species is assumed. These specimens were found in a temporary water body near the Estonian town of Rakvere
