Deutsch: Anlässlich der "Kulturhaupstadt Europas" wurden 82 internationale Architekten und Künstler eingeladen, für das damals noch geteilte Berlin "Architektonische Entwürfe für den Aufbruch ins 21. Jahrhundert" zu liefern. Ausgehend vom Titel entwarf der Verfasser kein Gebäude, sondern ein imaginäres, ca. 70 m hohes, mobiles Objekt, das DENKMAL als DENKMODELL. Die Idee war, beide Teile zwischen der Kongreßhalle und dem Reichstag auf Schienen hin- und herfahren zu lassen. Als Symbol der Zweiteilung sollte die Bewegung asynchron verlaufen, indem über Rechner eine Hälfte an den Wasserverbauch von West-, die andere an den von Ost-Berlin gekoppelt war. Am Endpunkt der ca. 550 m langen Strecke zwischen dem wilhelminischen Reichstagsgebäude und der Kongresshalle (dem Beitrag der USA zur Internationalen Bauausstellung, „Interbau 1957”) würde die Vorwärtsbewegung gestoppt und in entgegengesetzter Richtung verlaufen. Dadurch würden die beiden Konstruktionsteile max. 10 m/h zurücklegen und im Lauf eines Tages drei wesentliche Konfigurationen bilden: die BEGEGNUNG, die EINHEIT und die TRENNUNG.
English: On the occasion of the "European Capital of Culture", 82 international architects and artists were invited to present "Architectural Designs for the Breakthrough into the 21st Century" for Berlin, which was still divided at that time. Based on the title, the author did not design a building, but an imaginary, approximately 70 m high, mobile object, the MONUMENT as a THINKING MODEL. The idea was to have both sections run back and forth between the Kongreßhalle and the Reichstag on rails. As a symbol of the division, the movement was to proceed asynchronously, in that one half was linked to the water consumption of West Berlin and the other half to that of East Berlin. At the end of the approximately 550 m long route between the Reichstag building in Wilhelmina and the Congress Hall (the USA's contribution to the International Building Exhibition, „Interbau 1957”), the forward movement would stop and run in the opposite direction. This would make the two construction parts travel with max. 10 m/h and in the course of a day form three essential configurations: ENCOUNTER, UNITY and SEPARATION.
Français : A l'occasion de la "Capitale Européenne de la Culture", 82 architectes et artistes internationaux ont été invités à fournir des "projets architecturaux pour le début du XXIe siècle" à Berlin, alors divisé. Sur la base du titre, l'auteur n'a pas conçu un bâtiment, mais un objet mobile imaginaire, d'environ 70 m de haut, le MONUMENT comme MODÈLE DE PENSÉE. L'idée était de faire circuler les deux parties entre la Kongresshalle et le Reichstag sur des rails. Symbole de la division, le mouvement devait se dérouler de manière asynchrone, en reliant par ordinateur, la moitié était liée à la consommation d'eau de Berlin - Ouest -, l'autre à celle de Berlin-Est. A la fin de la route d'environ 550 m entre le Reichstag building de Wilhelmina et le Congresshalle (la contribution des États-Unis à l'Exposition Internationale de la Construction, „Interbau 1957”), le mouvement en avant s'arrêterait et irait dans le sens inverse. Cela rendrait les deux parties de construction max. parcourir 10 m/h et former en une journée trois configurations essentielles: la RENCONTRE, l'UNITÉ et la SÉPARATION. |
