When moist air is lifted mechanically (in this case by a mountain spur), orographic cloud results. Cap clouds and lenticular clouds are also orographic in origin, as is upslope cloud produced when wind blows moist air against a highland or mountain range. Much of the cloud in Britain is orographic in nature.
