English: Portrait of Ephraim Niles Byram

Ephraim Byram (1809-1881) a self-taught scientist and clockmaker who ran the Sherry and Byram clockworks of Sag Harbor. He also was a maker of navigational and nautical instruments to aid the local ships. In 1836 he was awarded a Gold Medal by the American Institute for his work on an orrery; an articulated scaled model of the solar system. Buried in Oakland Cemetery (Sag Harbor, NY).
