Summary[edit]

Description

English: Colour plate showing uniforms NSDAP political leaders (politischer Leiter) in service for the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront, DAF), the labour organisation of the paramilitary organized Nazi party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, NSDAP), which replaced the various independent trade unions in Germany after Adolf Hitler's rise to power in 1933:
  • German Labour Front (DAF) service uniform for a Factory Brigade Leader (Werkscharführer) as a political leader
    • Service rank: Arbeitsleiter, labour leader (a local level rank within the NSDAP, rather than a position)
    • Service position: a Betriebsblockobmann (a political position of local Ortsgruppen level of the Nazi Party 1939–1945)
    • Werkschar (Factory Brigade) personnel were used as worksite and factory police to ensure no work slow downs or other interference from inside or outside the work force.
    • Dark blue NSDAP Visor cap (Schirmmütze) with a traditional high peak, chin cord of synthetic golden threading, etc.
    • Cap insignia consisting of a gilt NSDAP cap eagle (Parteiadler, "Party Eagle"), with a gilt wreath and a separate tri-colour cockade with a black enameled swastika in the center. The eagle is in the shape of a standard Nazi style German imperial eagle (Reichsadler, "National Eagle"), with open wings and a mobile swastika within an oak wreath (see Nazi Germany visor cap insignia guide at Germandaggers.com).
    • Tunic: A dark blue waist length single breasted jacket with pleated breast pockets and shoulder straps
    • Collar patches/tabs (Kragenspiegel) with NSDAP rank insignia 1939-1945

Rank was indicated by a series of arm chevrons; silver for lower rank and gold for senior positions (see NSDAP organizations Collar Tab and Shoulder Board Identification Guide at www.germandaggers.com). Four colours were adopted to indicate various State levels for the DAF Werkscharführer; yellow for DAF Oberst-Werkscharführer; red for DAF Gau-Werkscharführer, black for DAF Kreis-Werkscharführer and light blue for DAF Haupt-Werkscharführer and Werkscharführer. These four colours were used as piping to the shoulder straps and for the coloured lanyards worn on the uniform.

    • Dark blue high-fronted peaked DAF cap (DAF Schirmmütze).
