This joint is like walking into juke joint 1964 except they have a flat screen TV you can watch the game on if you want to. The stage is lit with a $3 string of xmas lights. The cocktails are... there are no cocktails.. there's beer and there's liquor. How about that shit? The talent on stage is off the hook. The talent that walk in the door and jumps on the mic is off the hook. It's a family run business with deep local connections to the town. There's good chance there's a birth day going on and you can go fix yourself a plate. People are super friendly here. The house band is Guitar Slim Jr. -whose father was a local blues legend. And he's a legend himself if you ask me. GSJ can play the blues, but can get funky and can play the pop hits to please a crowd. He has a wide vocal range and will do some covers of Aretha Franklin and Michael Jackson.... did i mention there is no cover at this place? Local legends like Big Chief Doucette will get up and sing a few N.O. standards that get people out of their seats. And then proprietor, Judy, will get up there. Don't miss her getting on stage and singing 'Fire'. So good. |
