1955, the Cold War is at its height, everyone is spying on everyone else, here we see a car manufactured in East Germany, owned by CIA, note American Diplomatic registration plate ( US Forces in Germany 1955 ) driven by a British operative, note monogram on his briefcase, talking to an English car mechanic, note sign on rear wall of garage, what is the nature of work he is requesting to be carried out on this car Opel Olympia was a car produced by the East German automaker Opel, based in Rüsselsheim. Introduced January 1950 the Olympia was based on the pre-war car of same name, but with a new updated body shape. The following bodies were offered, two door saloon, two door cabriolet, and two door estate, 1.5 litre overhead valve petrol engine, column mounted three speed manual gear change.( thanks to Adrian J Walker, Jeff Wharton and Wikipedia for car photo ) |
