beautiful driveways. .Anotherfavorite view is that from the little steamer Maid of the Mist, at the base of the tremendous mass of watersthat falls from the heights above. The tremendous force of Niagara has worn out a gorge 200 ft. deep, extendingto Lewiston. The ^Vhirlpool Rapids are some distance down the Gorge where the walls narrow to a width of300 ft. Heie the waters have a speed of 40 miles an hour, and are piled together in the utmost confusion. Thebase of the Gorge is traversed by a trolley line, the Niagara Gorge and Railway Co., and affords a delightful wayot viewing the Rapids and the Whirlpool at close range. On the Canadian side of the ri\er the Internationa!Belt Line have trolley cars running from the Falls toQ^ueenston. On the .American side, about 40,000 horse powerhas been developed and still funher power is to be developed by the Niagara Power Co. On the Canadian side,two 01 three companies are installing plants to develop power for distribution throughout Ontario.
