| Description | This little takeout burger restaurant in Cincinnati's West End is one of a few remaining artifacts from a 1970s-era burger chain owned by former Kentucky governor John Y. Brown. This particular restaurant was bought at a Sheriff's Auction and moved to at the corner of Central Avenue and W Liberty Street in 1993, and has since become a local landmark and a well-known restaurant. Other Ollie's Trolley restaurants currently exist in Louisville and Washington, DC, though they are independent of one another. Though this little bright spot exists close to the revitalization and energy of Over-the-Rhine, it is surrounded by neglected historic buildings that are not covered by historic designation, and thus it, along with the surrounding buildings, is vulnerable to demolition, which could come along with new development. This little often overlooked corner of the city should have the eye of preservationists and concerned local citizens to ensure that any redevelopment and revitalization happens in a way that is sensitive to the historic fabric and existing conditions of the area. |
