English: Old engine house at Mulreesh Standing in the centre of what was once Islay's main lead mining area, these buildings included miners' cottages [left] and an engine house, where a beam engine was used for the pumping of water from the local mines. The life of the engine appears to have barely spanned a decade in the 1870's & 80's. |
