One of two well-printed daily papers has assumed thecorresponding title of the Ejntcqjh. The unreliability ofepitaphs—if the remark may be safely ventured even atthis distance—is proverbial. Nevertheless, they may oc-casionally tell the truth. From appearances it wouldseem that this was one of the occasions. Almost anyeulogy of its subject by the Epitaph would seem justi-fied. The city, but two years old at this date, had at-tained to a population of 2000, and a property valuation, TOMBSTONE, 487 apart from that of the mines, of $1,050,980. A desirablelot of 30 by 80 feet, on Allen Street, between Fonrtliand Sixth—such was the business-like nomenclature usedalready in this settlement of yesterday—was worth §6000.
