| Description |
English: Old Dalby Test Track, Melton Mowbray This was once part of a through route between London and Nottingham but for many years has been used as the railway industry's test track - generally known by the unofficial name of the Old Dalby Test Track. It extends northwards from Melton Junction to Edwalton on the outskirts of Nottingham, allowing the testing of new rail vehicles at speed under realistic conditions; actual testing, however, takes place north of here - this stretch merely providing the connection with the rest of the rail network. The line closed to ordinary traffic in the late 1960s, although it was used during the 1990s to provide access to the short-lived Asfordby Colliery. |
