Summary[edit]

Description
English: The hyperboloid Shukhov Oka Tower, formerly on the east bank of the Oka River in central Russia. The east tower illegally destroyed and demolished for scrap steel in 2005.
  • Two 1929 Soviet Union era electricity pylons allowed transmission lines to cross the Oka River, and they were designed and engineered by the great Russian scientist Vladimir Shukhov (1853-1939).
  • The remaining one of the two is on the west bank of the Oka River near Dzerzhinsk, in Nizhniy Novgorod Oblast — and is the world’s only surviving hyperboloid electricity pylon.
