Due to the reduced demand for crude oil products stemming from the COVID-19 stay-at-home measures around the world, many tankers have nowhere to deliver their oil.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Due to the reduced demand for crude oil products stemming from the COVID-19 stay-at-home measures around the world, many tankers have nowhere to deliver their oil. For this reason, there has been an unusual stationing of oil tankers at major US ports and this has triggered government agencies to monitor any spillage that may occur. This image acquired by a Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite on 23 April shows numerous oil tankers parked outside the ports of Long Beach, California. The Copernicus Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellites are particularly suitable to study and monitor oil spill events.
