Summary[edit]

Description Col. Peter Helmlinger, far left, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District commander, was among the VIPs who took part in a groundbreaking ceremony March 4 for Netzaberg Chapel in Grafenwoehr, Germany. Also pictured (from left) are: Col. James Saenz, U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria commander; Chaplain (Col.) Mark Roeder, the garrison’s Religious Support Services director; Helmut Saalbach, Mickan Construction Company’s chief site engineer; Henner Wasmuth, chief of the Amberg-Sulzbach state construction office; and Eschenbach Mayor Peter Lehr. The chapel is the last official project under Efficient Basing Grafenwoehr, which included more than 150 new and renovated structures that delivered world-class training facilities and improved the quality of life for U.S. and allied troops, civilians and families. The $16 million complex, slated for completion in the summer of 2016, will seat up to 600 people and feature a worship center, religious education areas, activity center with kitchen, sacristy room, resource center and administrative spaces. It also can be used as a multipurpose venue for the Netzaberg housing area. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers courtesy photo by Chelsea Bissell, USAG Bavaria/PAO)
