Description
English: Officials break ground March 9, 2009, for the construction of the USS Reuben James (FFG 57) barracks, the last of two major projects in a 12-year, $770 million recapitalization plan at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. Breaking ground with gold shovels are, from left, two former U.S. Sailors from the guided-missile frigate; Capt. John W. Peterson, commanding officer of Recruit Training Command; Rear Adm. Lee Metcalf, deputy commander of Navy Region Midwest; Rear Adm. Clifford S. Sharpe, commander of Naval Service Training Command; Capt. David A. Schnell, commanding officer of Naval Station Great Lakes; Capt. Jake Washington, commanding officer of Naval Facilities; Roger Blinderman and David Trolian, members of the contracting partnership and design team of Clark-Blinderman-Zander-Graef, which will build the barracks; and a former Rueben James Sailor who is now a civilian.
