O-1 FAC over North Vietnam

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Air Force FACs began flying reconnaissance missions in North Viet Nam's lower southern panhandle July 20. Like their counterparts in South Viet Nam, the FACs in the North by continual daily reconnaissance flights over the same terrain become familiar with activity down below. When they locate a military target, they direct air strikes against it. Since the program began, FACS have directed an average of 26 US air strikes daily. This picture shows the light, unarmed O-1 Bird dog spotter plane used by FACs." Credit photo to the National Museum of the USAF
