Summary[edit]

Description
English: Built in 1973, this Modern fine and performing arts center, designed by William Wesley Peters of the Frank Lloyd Wright/Taliesin Foundation, the building stands on the former campus of the old Danville High School, and replaced the Emma Weisiger Art and Music Building, built in 1952 at the campus of the Kentucky College for Women on Lexington Avenue, and utilized by Centre College for 11 years following the merger of the two institutions in 1962. The building, which shows clear influences from the work of Frank Lloyd Wright in its design, features a red brick and concrete facade, an irregularly shaped hexagonal footprint, a main entrance at the western corner of the building with a two-story glass curtain wall, and a cantilevered third floor above with a ribbon window and soaring roof edge that extends along the entire eastern facade of the building, several glass curtain walls and windows along the western facade, two interior live performance auditoriums, and large circular concrete columns. The building plays an important role in Danville’s cultural scene, hosting traveling performers, shows, and acts, as well as performances by students in the arts programs at Centre College, and hosted Vice Presidential Debates in 2000 and 2012 inside the 1,476-seat Newlin Hall, with the smaller 367-seat Weisiger Theatre being home to smaller and more intimate performances.
