Description
English: The northern-most point in the continental United States is the ÔÇ£Northwest AngleÔÇØ in Minnesota. It is the only part of the U.S. outside of Alaska north of the 49th parallel. The land became part of the US as a result of the Treaty of Paris in 1783 between the U.S. and Great Britain, and surveying errors. In 1796 it was settled by the Ojibwe, and is now mostly part of the Red Lake Indian Reservation. Residents must cross into Canada to drive to the rest of the lower 48 states. The simulated natural color ASTER image covers an area of 43.7 x 66.1 km, is centered near 49.1 degrees north latitude, 95 degrees west longitude, and was acquired May 19, 2002.
