Summary[edit]
DescriptionNorth Dakota National Guard Flood Response, storm drain.jpg | Chief Warrant Officer Jeff Buchweitz, the officer in charge of the day shift volunteers with the 164th Engineer Battalion, takes note of an area in Minot where a storm drain has been overflowing May 24, 2011. Sandbags have been placed around storm drains throughout Minot to contain the water. After a meeting with the National Weather Service, Army Corps of Engineers, city officials and Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, North Dakota adjutant general, it was determined that National Guard assistance was required to assist in monitoring the dikes. Dike walkers are to be on patrol for any leaks, seepage, water filling up in yards or storm drains filling up. If they encounter any of these things they are to report it to the city engineers or the Department of Public Waste. There are 28 Guard members on duty that are divided into two 12-our shifts to patrol the 21-mile-long area from Minot to Burlington. If necessary, Guard members are also prepared to provide traffic control points and whatever else may be necessary to ensure safety.
