English: In front of the «Fram» in the ice. From the left: Anton Amundsen, Peder Leonard Hendriksen, Ivar Otto Irgens Mogstad, Henrik Greve Blessing, and Otto Neumann Knoph Sverdrup, on skis together with some of the dogs. One of the pictures from the expedition with arctic ship toward the North Pole in the period June 24, 1893 to August 13, 1896. According to the plan, the ship was to drift in the ice with the ocean current from the coast of Siberia across the North Pole to Greenland. The goal, to get to the North Pole, was not reached, but the scientific evidence gathered was of great importance to arctic research.

This image is in the public domain in Norway because images not considered to be "works of art" become public domain 50 years after creation, provided that more than 15 years have passed since the photographer's death or the photographer is unknown.
This is according to § 23 in the Norwegian Åndsverkloven. Under the former photo law, protection ended 25 years after creation, provided that more than 15 years had passed since the photographer's death or the photographer is unknown. The image is in the public domain if the protection ended before 29 June 1995 under the older term.[1] To uploader: Please provide information about where the image was first published, who created it, and when the photographer died, if known.
