Situated at just a smidgen over 5,000 feet elevation, the Hyatt Lake Recreation Area is the only developed campground within the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument. The more than 50 campsites dot the southern end of the lake, nestled among the evergreen firs and pines, with views across the water to the north of Mount McLoughlin. There are also more primitive campsites, popular with kayakers and anglers because of easy boat parking, and a horse campground, too. These photographs, from a clear night just after the summer solstice, show the potential for stargazing at the lake shore.
