They have been used withapproval in St. Johns and show great endurance, being proof againststorms and other action of climate. Several shipments of this slatehave been made to London, with the result that a demand has beenestablished which must lead to the building up of a large localindustry. In the vicinity of the quarry from which these shipments weremade, Mr. Sydney Woods, of St. Johns, owns several valuableclaims, which possess the same characteristics as the above, speci-mens from which he will be pleased to show to interested parties.These deposits are readily accessable by water, and possess everyadvantage to insure economic and successful working. In addition to these, Mr. Woods has a mica claim which hasmany indications of excellence. This, too, is located near water,and has the best shipping facilities. WAVERLEY HOTEL. J. M. DOOLEY, Proprietor. 206 Duckworth Street, St. Johns, Newfoundland. The Waverley Hotel, situated on Duckworth street, is a convenient locality,of which J. M. Dooley is proprietor, is a well conducted house, and commendsitself to tourists and others visiting St. Johns. Electric cars pass near itsdoors. Its windows look off upon the city and the fine harbor, the narrows andupon the beautiful hills beyond. The docks of the various sea-going and coastalsteamers are near at hand, as is also the railway station, while the churchesand other interesting points of the city are within convenient distance. Mr.Dooley, who is a native of St. Johns, has had an extensive experience in cateringfor the public, having for the past thirteen years acted as chief steward ofsteamers plying in the coastal service, and between St. Johns and Halifax.Having leased the Waverley for a term of years, he will devote his bestendeavors to make it an agreeable stopping place to all visiting the c
