Son of George W. and Eugenie (Stafford) Brown; was born at Newton, Mass., Oct. 25, 1895. He was a graduate of the Newton High School, and entered Dartmouth College in the class of 1920. At college he was captain of the tennis team, and played on the football and hockey teams. He attended the Plattsburg Training Camp in 1915; and in March, 1917, went overseas to France as driver in the American Ambulance Field Service. In at least three instances, before the accident in which his life was sacrificed, Lieut. Brown escaped fatal consequences solely by his remarkable skill as pilot. On one of these occasions his companion was killed. He had almost finished formation flying in the Seventh Class, when he was killed by a fall due to a defect in his machine, on Sept. 28, 1918, while flying a Spad monoplace to the front, in the Arrondissement de Mantes. He was buried at Hargeville, Suresnes, France.
