On the 29th of November, 1652, a conveyancewas made by Wasamequin, an Indian chief, and Wamsutta, his son,of the territory now included in the city of New Bedford and theneighboring towns of Fairhaven, Acushnet, Dartmouth, and West-port. For this large tract of land, the consideration was as Ibllows :Thirty 3ards of cloth, eight moose-skins, fifteen axes, fifteen hoes,fifteen pair of breeches, eight blankets, two kettles, one cloak, £2 inwampan, eight pair stockings, eight pair of shoes, one iron pot, andten shillings in another commoditie.
