He died at his home, in Union-town, on April 3, 1899, of anaemia, after anillness of two years, and his remains, afterbeautiful and impressive funeral services atSt. Peters church, were entombed in a taste-ful spot selected by himself in Oak Grovecemetery, and near the Old Pike, whosehistory he wrote so well and about whichhe loved to converse so much. A grand page in the history of the newworld is Searights story of the Old Pikeor National Road, which great thorough-fare was so important to the early develop-ment of his country, and so powerwful instrengthening the bonds of the Union, andaround which cling a wealth of romance andmany facts stranger than fiction. They arebut two great highways noticed in history,one the Appian Way, the Queen of Roads,of which no account has been preserved; andthe other, the National Road, whose his-tory is only told in this volume by Searight,
