This same vigorous race poured intothe valleys of Pennsylvania, many of thempassing on into iNIaryland and the beautifulvalley of Virginia. In Pennsylvania, as inother States, they have produced many ad-mirable types of character in the national asin the intellectual sphere of expansion anddevelopment. Among the other early settlers to becommemorated are: Samuel Grable, SamuelWheaton, Johnson Van Kirk, John Moore,an expert mechanic and maker of spinning-wheels, some of which may have found theirway to the plantations of the distant south;Alexander McClean, deputy surveyor; Wil-liam Price, Barig Brashears, John Tate,James Winders, Stephen Randolph, TimothySmith, James Frost, Christian Perkey andthe Hibbs families; also Richard jNlills andTimothy Canfield, a native of Ireland.
