| Description |
English: Nelson's Grave This is the grave of Joseph Nelson, a sailor from Cumbria. In January, 1791, his ship sank at this point whilst on a voyage from Whitehaven. Joseph drowned and was buried here. I don't know why his body wasn't returned home, across the Solway.
Only a couple of years ago, it was possible to read the inscription easily, but, today, the surface of the grave is very worn and the writing has become hard to decipher. It's a shame that the grave no longer seems to be maintained. |
