This image of the construction of the temporary Naval Training Station was taken on October 1, 1918. The training camp was active from August 1, 1917 to 1919, during which time over 5,000 mostly college students and graduates from University of Washington, Washington State College, and Oregon colleges, were trained for both naval and naval aviation units. The two buildings in the background were built for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in 1909; the Oriental Foreign Exhibit Building is at the left edge of the frame, and the Washington State Building is on the right edge of the frame.
