Description |
English: National flag of New Zealand New Zealand national flag presented to Robert Falcon Scott's ship 'Terra Nova' in 1910 by the pupils of Lyttelton District High School, New Zealand, as part of an expedition fund raising drive. The flag is made of wool bunting with a linen hoist and is hand and machine sewn. A rope and toggle is attached for hoisting. Design: field blue with a Union flag in the canton. There are four white fimbriated red stars in the fly. White letters have been added: 'L.D.H.S. TO TERRA NOVA 1910'. The ship flew the flag from her mast head when she left Lyttelton on November 26 1910. See Baden N. Norris 'Blackboards and Ships' masts' (Lyttelton, NZ, 2000) pp.36-37. |
