Flickerfest Short Film Festival opens at Bondi Pavilion, Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia - 11th January 2013...

The world famous Flickerfest enjoyed opening night at Bondi Pavilion tonight.

Many thanks to everyone who continues to make this one of the world's great film festivals, and good luck to all of the actors, film directors and producers, and once again well done Flickerfest.

Flickerfest, renowned as Sydney¹s first outdoor beachside cinema, kicks off the summer movie season under the stars at Bondi Beach in 2013 from 11th-20th January, screening the best short films from Australia and the world in a unique and relaxed summer environment. Once the festival finishes, Flickerfest goes on tour to over 40 venues around Australia. Our Academy®Accredited short film competition & special showcases celebrate the latest in cutting edge shorts from around the world. Welcome to our world of shorts!

FLiCKERFEST presented By Renault

Announces Its Official Selections Across All Competitions For 2013

This year FLiCKERFEST received an unprecedented number of entries from over 21 countries across the globe. In excess of 2300 short films were received at FLICKERFEST HQ in Bondi- exceeding last year’s total by 200 plus entrants. From these entries, 116 films have been selected for the four official competitions, all representing some of the most innovative, creative and cutting edge short films that the world has to offer Now in our 22nd year Flickerfest is proud to be a platform for celebrating short film excellence.

For many films, FLiCKERFEST festival will serve as their World and/or Australian Premiere:

· 47 Australian films have been selected in the Official Australian Academy® Accredited Competition across 5 programs with 13 World Premiere’s, 4 Australian Premiere’s and 18 NSW Premiere’s. · 38 International films have been selected for the Official International Competition across five programs – these include 3 World Premiere’s, 31 Australian Premiere’s and 3 NSW Premiere’s. · 14 films have been selected for the Official Documentary Competition across two programs – 11 of these are Australian Premiere’s and 1 a World Premiere. · 17 films will screen in the GreenFlicks Competition across two programmes with 1 World Premiere and 14 Australian Premiere’s.

In total, the festival will be screening 18 World Premiere’s including the much anticipated animation, A Cautionary Tail, starring the voices of Cate Blanchett, Barry Otto and David Wenham. Also being screened for the first time will be Australian film The Captain, co-written and directed by the immensely talented Nash Edgerton and the heartfelt tale Wishart, which sees award winning Sound Recordist Sam Petty making his directorial debut with a story starring Damon Herriman, Megan Drury and Rowan Woods.

FLICKERFEST remains Australia’s only Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival. This year the festival is proud to announce that the Best Australian Film Award has become Academy ®Accredited and will now join Flickerfest’s existing Academy® Accredited Awards for Best Film and Best Animation in the international section.

Flickerfest kicks off the summer cinema season under the stars at Bondi Beach, screening the best short films from Australia and the world in the iconic Bondi Pavilion from Friday 11 - 20 January 2013.

After wrapping up its ten day Bondi Sydney event the very best flicks from Flickerfest will then hit the road on the festivals annual national tour between January and May 2013, visiting 47 venues, across all states and regional hotspots, hungry for great films Australia-wide.
