Summary

[edit]
Description

The picture shows an atomic force microscopy (AFM) image of a polymer film. Two different materials, initially blended together, underwent phase-separation, a process important for the development of novel, plastic solar cells. With the help of AFM, the surface topography is probed and different brightness in the final image corresponds to different height values. Highlighted in red are patterns the researcher might see after a long day imaging their samples. The size of the 'demon' at the top is about 5 micrometres.
