Description
English: President Howard Taft in front of the North Carolina State Capitol building, Raleigh, NC. Former President William Howard Taft (right), December 5, 1916, with State Literary and Historical Association President, Dr. Howard Rondthaler beside him; Secretary of the State Historical Commission, R. D. W. Connor (left); and Governor Locke Craig (center), in open car in front of the State Capitol, Raleigh, NC. The car is a 1915 Cadillac Type 51 Touring with initials E. C. D. seen on the side. Edward Carl Duncan is listed in the 1915 city directory as the president of Merchants National Bank. In an N&O memoriam at the time of his death he is described as “trusted friend and advisor” to William H. Taft. From the Barden Collection, North Carolina State Archives, Raleigh, NC.
