Description
English: Mechanics and Farmers Bank (1923)

Mechanics and Farmers Bank was chartered in 1907 in Durham as an outgrowth of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. The Raleigh branch opened at 13 E. Hargett in 1923. It was one of only banks in Raleigh that did not fail after the stock market crash of 1929. M&F still occupies the same building today, although it has been remodeled and is unrecognizable from its original appearance.

This building was constructed by C. E. Lightner and Brothers in 1922.
